Remember when you were young, and how you just LOVED to go on those amusement park rides that go around and around and around? Perhaps someday you may want to relive those childhood years, and go for a spin again? Well take it from me: don’t! Just flush that foolish idea from your head, and don’t ever, ever consider it again!
About 20 years ago, when I was considerably younger, my ex-wife and I were visiting an amusement park outside Latrobe, PA. As we strolled through the park, we happened upon the “caterpillar” ride. This is a small train type vehicle that goes around and around a circular track. The track has slight bumps and dips in it, and an awning raises and lowers over the cars as you go around.
Remembering how we enjoyed the ride as kids, we decided to ride it that day, to see if we still liked it. We got on the ride, (ominously, being the only adults to do so), settled in, and train started moving. Around we went, and up and down. The awning came down over our heads briefly a few times. This was fun!
And around we went, and up and down. Whee! Down came the awning, and around we went, and up and down. Whew! And around we went, and up and down. Okay ….. we get the picture. What else can this ride do?
And around we went, and up and down. And again …. down came the awning, and around we went, and up and down. This was now getting a bit boring, and a little dizzying.
And around we went, and up and down. And around again. And again! And again! And ……. AAAHHHH!!
We started asking each other when this friggin’ ride was going to stop! This was ridiculous! We were starting to get sick.
And down came the awning, and around we went, and up and down, again and again and again and again and again and, Good Lord help us, again!
By the time that stupid ride ended we were both pukey and unstable on our feet. The rest of the day we both complained about how lousy we felt, and how we would NEVER, EVER, EVER ride on that evil machine again.
Don’t believe me? Why don’t you go try it yourself, and let us know how it works out for you? Have fun!
